When you live life in your head.
As you walk around, you can often be so focused on what’s going on inside your mind that you miss the life that is right there in front of you.
This is when the monkey mind has your full attention, and it often causes you to create mishaps or missed opportunities.
By getting caught up in the neural pathways of the constant banter in your head, you remove yourself from the presence of life.
This leads you to not show up for others or even notice the connection you could have.
In order to disconnect from the power this monkey has over you, you need to practice gaining some space.
Quieting your mind, focusing on a mantra, or your breathing just for 15 minutes per day will allow you to sever the hold it has over you.
Practice noticing the sky when you are out or looking at others and sharing a smile.
Ask those you come in contact with how they are and look them in the eyes when you do it.
When you are driving, pay attention to the music on your radio and the beautiful scenery around you.
Practicing presence will allow you to fully engage with life.
When it comes to ruminating about your problems, the best thing you can do is leave them alone for a little while.
Decide to let go of the entourage of thoughts about what’s coming next and what you have to do.
Let go of the worries and overwhelm about getting things done, be present, and do one thing at a time.
You will be more productive this way, and you will send the signal for things to go more smoothly.
Being present is where your life is fully lived, and it allows you to be awake and aware of all of the awesomeness that life is trying to show you.
Life is right here and right now.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to smell the roses.
